Road to 26.2

Tuesday, January 11th- 4 freaking days!

Holy taper, Batman. This is kicking my ass. I feel like my brain is full of bees and if I sit still, I’ll die. All I want in the whole world is a long run. Just ten or fifteen miles to set me straight. Every one of my short runs, I am telling myself to slow the eff down, yet I can’t! I’ve made several PRs, which is not what I’m supposed to be doing, damnit. I feel driven by an internal motor! My husband told me that I was going to steam the grout straight out of the tile if I kept up my cleaning!

Ok. Breathe. That’s what I keep reminding myself, before I forget that thought and go back to steam cleaning my floors. 

Since I can’t run like I NEED to, I’m cleaning and organizing through the house. One area that I just reorganized are my books. The following are some of my favorites and have contributed to the good kind of crazy that I bring to the world;

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson

This was given to me, in the originally published article, by a friend as we moved from Oregon to Texas. There was a crazy amount of friends turned haters when we announced our move for Luke’s job. I loved the article and it’s entire premise, and needed the book when it came out. 

Born to Run by Christopher McDougall

Just an incredible story of a hidden, secret tribe of superhuman runners and ultrarunners! My husband’s best friend is an ultrarunner, he recommended this book to me to read on the drive out here from Oregon. He knows how annoying I get on road trips, he was probably trying to help Luke! I was riveted by the story of the American runner, as well as the Tarahumara Indians.

You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero

This was the first book I read that stunned me with how I had been holding myself back. It was an incredible mirror to identifying the limiting beliefs I had been subscribing to, as well as seeing the empowering beliefs that would be the keys to more growth.

About a year later, I read her second book, You Are a Badass at Making Money. I couldn’t even complete the first activity for months, when I finally came back to it after some more personal work, I could complete it and work through the bullshit stories I had been telling myself. That book helped me heal my relationship with money and see wealth much differently. If you’re someone who doesn’t think they need this book because wealth is for rich and terrible people, this is exactly the book your life and your future need you to read.

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

Y’all probably don’t need a description of this book because you’ve either read it or have heard of it so much that you refuse to read it. I read this book in two days, it was such a raw way of speaking. Rachel Hollis was so brutally honest about the lies we are told, and why those are BS. This is why she is so popular and why her books are best sellers, her honesty. I listen to her podcast and have read her next book, Girl, Stop Apologizing. This book helped me identify the areas I was making smaller, and why I should power-stance my own life and be proud of my accomplishments. In listening to her podcasts, I totally fell in love with her husband, Dave Hollis, and his speaking and coaching style. In fact, his style resonates even more with the 2020 version of me, while Rachel resonated more with the 2018 version. I have pre-ordered Dave’s new books, Get Out of Your Own Way, which releases in March.

*Fun fact, Dave is also running Austin, his first marathon in four days!

The 5-Second Rule by Mel Robbins

Full confession, this book was not one of my favorites. However, I love Mel Robbins’ speaking style and her sage advice, dispensed daily on social media. I love listening to her, it’s like sitting around with your favorite aunt, having wine and lasagna, while she tells you the truths you need in your life. I saw her speak at my company’s convention a few years ago and ran out to grab her book! I’m a bit of an old school teacher, so y’all know I love a paper copy of a book so I can highlight, make notes, post-it flag, etc… Bottom line, Mel says what so many of us need to hear, so whether you get her book, subscribe to her emails, follow her on the socials, whatever, just get you some Mel.

Roar by Dr. Stacy Sims

I have recommended this book about 9,000 times! It is a comprehensive guide for women’s health and performance. Whether you’re an athlete, a mom on the go, or someone starting a fitness journey, you need this book. Dr. Sims is ground-breaking in her research of and for women, as well as her understanding of the performance needs of women at all levels. She has excellent and practical advice that is easy to put into use in your training program immediately. Get the book, you will be happy that you did.
